[Before I begin I am unashamedly biased here as I’m responsible for the technical elements of this solution and it has been a BIG part of my life, and the life of many folks for the last 18 months!].
CSC have published details of their Collaborative Enterprise solution at csc.com/collaboration. What we have tried to do is understand the way people work, the way people collaborate, the way we all communicate and share information. To reflect this we’ve developed solutions reflected in a quadrant made up of:
Unified Communications:
- Instant Messaging
- Presence
- Unified Messaging
- Unified Communications
Effective Conferencing:
- Audio bridges
- Web meetings
- Integrated audio and web meetings
- Video conferencing
- Electronic whiteboard and flipchart solutions
Knowledge Networking:
- Blogs
- Social networking
- Social bookmarking
- Enterprise RSS
Dynamic Workproduct:
- Portals
- Content and document management
- Enterprise search
- Electronic team workspaces
- Wikis

This solution development activity has also been a real journey for me personally. My previous roles were all focused specifically on Lotus technology. It has been great to be able to reach over into competitive products and non-competitive products that form the collaboration vendor landscape. More interesting though has been taking a different view, moving away from focusing on the architecture and engineering of collaboration products for enterprises into a view of why and how people collaborate and what tools can assist in that process. One thing is quite clear from all the work that there isn’t a single answer to any collaboration need, no single vendor and certainly no single product … Its a busy time for us all at the moment post launch and I’m spending a lot of time talking to customers, analysts and vendors about what we’ve released and about building upon these solutions into FY09 and beyond.
CSC was my first client when I became a Notes consultant 15 years ago, and I kept the relationship going for about five years of on-again/off-again gigs. I worked on CSC’s first division-wide roll-out, for a division called “CSC Partners” that was based in Massachusetts and with about a dozen other offices across the US. While doing this, I also worked with the team in Falls Church that was managing the corporate-wide roll-out. And then I started working on upgrades and server consoldation for “CSC Index”, another Massachusetts-based division.
